He started acting at the age of four.
His parents discovered his acting talents and they supported him from the start so he could make his dreams come true. His mother left her job (physical therapist) to help her son and his career.

When Shawn was seven years old, the family moved to Los Angeles.

First he became a child modell in commercials, then he was given small roles in the Walt Disney Company's "Sing Me a Story", then in the Trinity Broadcasting Network's educational programme, The Reppies.
From 1998 he appeared in film series like Chicago Hope, Ellen, L.A. Doctors, The Drew Carey Show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Amanda Show [full list of Shawn's guest appearances], and also in television films like Pumpkin Man, A Wing and a Prayer, Michael Landon, the Father I Know, H-E Double Hockey Sticks, Come On, Get Happy: The Partridge Family Story [full list of Shawn's film roles]). He played a ten-year-old boy in the HBO's mini series, From the Earth to the Moon.
He was nominated to an award already in 1998 - to a Young Artist Award for the best supporting actor in the A Wing and a Prayer.

In 2000 he was given a smaller role in some bigger films (A Day in a Life, Pay it Forward, Max Keeble's Big Move), but also in new television series like 7th Heaven (he played a little boy with the Tourette Syndrome), A State of Grace, Family Guy, Stanley - for this role he was nominated to a Young Artist Award for the best supporting actor - also for his acting in the series of The Division and Touched by an Angel.

After four nominations, finally in 2001 Shawn received his first award (a Young Artist Award for the best supporting actor) for his acting in the series, Reba.

The big break happened in 2004 when he was given the role of Andrew Van De Kamp in the internationally popular ABC series, Desperate Housewives - for eight years. He did not only become famous but he also was nominated for Screen Actors Guild Awards and Prism Awards for his extraordinary acting skills by forming the troublemaker gay boy.

Besides Desperate Housewives, he also appeared in other series like Still Standing, Drake & Josh, Century City, 8 Simple Rules... for Dating My Teenage Daughter, The Jake Effect. He was also given a small role in two films in 2006: The Darkroom (horror) and The Shaggy Dog (comedy).

During the latest years he mainly worked in films like The Alyson Stoner Project, Tanner Hall, The Juggler, The Sexy Dark Ages, and next year he will be seen in  Killing Lincoln.
